Why It Was Important
Tin Kam Ho introduced the Random Decision Forests approach, later extended by Leo Breiman. By constructing a multitude of decision trees at training time and outputting the average or mode of their individual predictions, Random Forests prevented the severe overfitting issues inherent to single decision trees.
