Stanford Research Institute Problem Solver—an automated action planner.
Why It Was Important
Developed for the robot Shakey, STRIPS allowed a system to plan a sequence of actions by maintaining a world model. It defined actions through preconditions (what must be true to act) and effects (how the world changes). It remains a foundational concept in automated planning and scheduling.
