Why It Was Important
Created by Alain Colmerauer and Robert Kowalski, PROLOG allowed developers to input facts and rules into a database, then query that database using logical inference (unification). It became the dominant AI programming language in Europe and explicitly powered Japan's 5th Generation Computer Project.
